About 2500 Strong:

2500 Strong is a World Hope campaign is a World Hope campaign based on our belief that $10 can change the world. People desire to help other people. However, it can seem an insurmountable task when we look at the world we live in.  All around us, people are hungry and hurting. How can one person or $10 possibly make a difference? By joining with others. World Hope believes that the combined synergy of 2500 committed partners donating $10/month, we can and will bring lasting change to countless lives.

About World Hope:

The Bible commands us to go and spread the gospel, caring for the poor and sick.  At World Hope, we focus that command on some of the world’s most needy and hopeless. With Hope Centers located in three of the planet’s worst slums, we bring fresh food, clean water, education, and the hope of Jesus Christ to places most people have never seen and those who have would like to forget.  The effect of our Hope Centers is to be an oasis in the slums, a place of hope where children can learn the Bible, receive their one decent meal of the day, participate in athletics, and meet role models that will inspire them to be good stewards of the opportunity they have to emerge from the slum. We operate through a non-profit humanitarian organization, but we are really a partnership of people who are trying to fulfill the Bible’s command: some pray, some give, some go.

Current Focus:
Currently, our main focus is in Kawangware slum which sits just outside Nairobi, Kenya and is the second largest slum in all of Africa.

Kawangware facts:

  • Click to see the area map.crime, malnutrition, drug abuse, and poor sanitation are endemic
  • average monthly income is between $80 - $100 US per month
  • the slum is approximately 3 square miles
  • has an estimated 350,000 inhabitants
  • disease is rampant but many are treatable and can commonly be remedied
  • clean water is scarce
  • 62% unemployment rate
  • over 40% of adults are infected with HIV
  • 90% of the children of the slum are given little or no education
  • at any given time nearly half of all girls aged 16-25 are pregnant; many will lead to abortions.

How do we "push back the slum?"

  1. Education - we realize that this is the single most effective way to “Push back the slum.” By giving a child an education in a country where only an estimated 30% of the kids go beyond elementary school, we believe we can get them out of the slum.
  2. Fresh Food & Clean Water - we supply fresh food and clean water to the area in which we work
  3. Medical Attention - we are committed to providing medical attention for those in need and see to it that many common diseases that can be so easily remedied - are.
  4. Sports Programs - we coordinate these programs and clinics because we believe its the best way to get the kids off the streets and become integrated in our Hope Center.
